Why do you still have a Purchase Benefits page if PersonalWebKit is free?
Oops. Because we forgot to remove that page from the Help section when we released v3.3 which is the first completely free version. Please ignore it. PersonalWebKit is free, and we no longer sell the registered version.
How come one of my pages contains some foreign language?
The page content is what is commonly called "Lorem Ipsum". It is the standard placeholder text used for graphic designers so that a page is not completely empty. Please select and delete this text, then write your own.
Can I use PersonalWebKit for a business?
Yes, PersonalWebKit is free for anyone creating a website for personal or small business use. Our help files may indicate otherwise as they were inherited from a previous version, but you can use PersonalWebKit for a business website.
How do I make sub-pages where the links only show up after clicking another link.
PersonalWebKit cannot create sub-pages. All pages are linked from the sidebar to keep things simple.
My banner seems to be cropped incorrectly. Part of the PersonalWebKit interface including the words "Banner Design" show up as part of my banner.
This appears to be a bug in our software that shows up rarely on some user computers. We have not been able to replicate the problem or to fix it.
The Photo Gallery doesn't work right when I publish it to the web.
Some users have reported various problems such as the Photo Gallery not working right after publishing to the web. Generally, the photos are not uploaded with the rest of the website.
Try Publish All Files from the Web Publish tab.
If that's not the problem, then the FTP feature might be unable to deal with various configuration inconsistencies on web servers.
If so, try these steps, and test after each:
Another common problem is that you may have exceeded your webspace allocation set by your webspace provider. Go to Extras Menu >> Advanced Options >> Local Folder Size... to see how much space your site is taking, and compare that to how much webspace you have.
If you are still having problems with file upload, then consider bypassing the web publish feature, and using a dedicated FTP program. You can find your local files by going to Extras Menu >> Advanced Options >> Local Directory in PersonalWebKit. You could then upload all the files/folders there to your web server. We recommend Filezilla as a great free dedicated FTP program.
Some of my pictures are not being published to my webspace. The pictures show up on my local site, and previous pictures show up fine on my published site. What's wrong?
DO NOT COPY/PASTE PICTURES FROM OTHER SOURCES
One major problem is that some users try to copy/paste a picture from another source such as their email or a browser. Although PWK uses Microsoft technology that will display the picture on your machine, the picture will not be uploaded to your webspace so the website will NOT display your picture, only the "broken picture link" (red X) icon.
The Picture Library method in PWK will save a copy of your picture and upload it so that it displays fine to all website visitors. This is the ONLY method one should use for their pictures.
EXCEEDED YOUR WEBSPACE LIMIT
Another likely problem is that you have exceeded your ISP's max. webspace. No error message will result, but trying to add more files will fail. Many will give you only about 10MB (check your webspace docs). That should be over 100 photos....but much less if you have also included some video or audio files. The Photo Gallery also will fill up your webspace quickly.
You can try the following:
PersonalWebKit cannot connect to my webspace. What’s wrong?
There are several possibilites why PersonalWebKit can’t connect. Here are some of the most common:
Here's a test you can run to see if your settings are correct and your webspace is accessible.
Open Internet Explorer and type in "ftp://www.yourdomain.com" (making sure you substitute your own webspace provider domain). After a few seconds, you should see a popup login form. Enter your Login Name/Password and see if it can connect. If so, you should see a list of files/folders. Double-click on the folder (directory) for your webfiles.
If you can do this, then PersonalWebKit can also access the same site. If not, it's probably for one of the above reasons.
I have made two websites. How do I link the two?
Open the website you want to link to in a browser, making sure that’s it’s the published version, NOT the local previewed version (use the Let’s See Our Website Button).
Select the URL from the address bar of the browser and copy it (Ctrl + C).
Open the site and page you want to display a link to this site. Open that page in the Page Edit Window. Write and select some text, then use the Insert Link Button. Paste in the copied URL, and you have created a link to the other site.
Some of my files are not uploading when I Publish To Web. What's wrong?
Some users have mentioned that not all files are uploaded when the Publish to Web. We're not sure why that can occur to some users, but we have a solution.
First thing to try is the "Publish All Files Button" from the "Web Publish Tab". That may be able to accomodate the difficulties you are having. If not, try "Extras" >> "Advanced Options" >> "Alternate Publish Routine" and try Publish All Files Button again.
If none of that works:
It seems that PWK is unable to create folders on your web server. You may have use another FTP client if you wish to keep using your PWK site. Download Filezilla and install it. In PWK, the Extras >> Advanced Options dialog will show you which local folder has your webfiles. You could then manually upload your site.
My website doesn't look changed after I web publish when I know I made changes. What's wrong?
This is usually because of browser page caching. Web browsers will store website files on your own machine to reduce the download time the next time you visit the same site. The good news is that new visitors to your site will see the changes...the bad news is that you may not.
Solution: Always press F5 key to refresh your view when you check on your published site.
If that doesn't work, then try deleting all your Temporary Internet Files. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools Menu >> Internet Options >> Temporary Internet Files >> Delete Files. Close and re-open Internet Explorer. Check your website now (and hit F5 again).
Test: To test if it's just browser caching, try downloading another browser (try www.mozilla.com). Try opening your site in that. If that look ok, then you know it's just Internet Explorer caching your files.
If this doesn't work, it may be that your webspace takes a few minutes/hours to update the files. Wait a day, then check again.
How can I design my own template for PersonalWebKit?
You CANNOT use your own or other peoples templates in PersonalWebKit! PersonalWebKit builds a site that it understands so that it can change designs, autolink new pages, fit all images, etc.
PersonalWebKit has several design templates and dozens of banners, text styles, and backgrounds to allow you to customize your site.
If that's not what you want, then PersonalWebKit is not for you. There are many other programs that allow for you to build a custom design. Unfortunately, they are probably more expensive and take a lot longer to learn.
PersonalWebKit 3.2 includes 8 templates and dozens of banner backgrounds and text styles.
